the double axe

replica ancient Greek Minoan labrys double axes in bronze and sterling silver jewellery online and at It's All Greek London

'Labrys' is the term for a double-headed axe. It was a recurrent motif in the art and frescoes of the Minoans on Crete and appears to have been used exclusively by Minoan priestesses as a ceremonial item. Of all Minoan symbols, the labrys was the holiest. To find the double axe in the hands of a Minoan woman would suggest strongly that she held a powerful position within Minoan culture.
