Labrys is the term for a double-headed axe, known in ancient Greece as a pelekys.
The labrys symbol was often found during the Bronze Age archaeological recovery at the Palace of Knossos on Crete.
Known to have a strong religious significance, specifically for the use of Minoan priestesses as a ceremonial item, perhaps during the sacrifice of animals such as bulls. Of all the Minoan religious symbols, the axe was the holiest. To find such an axe in the hands of a Minoan woman would suggest strongly that she held a powerful position within the Minoan culture.
Below shows an image of the labrys cufflinks with one of our bronze Labrys.

The collection is inspired by ancient Greek silver and gold coins, the art and jewellery of the Minoan civilisation, familiar symbolic motifs and images, and the animals that played a significant part in ancient Greek culture.
