The serpent, a symbol of healing, guardian and protector of sacred places and objects. The ancient Greeks revered snakes for their wisdom and healing powers (as in the cult of Asklepios, the god of medicine), but also feared them for their tremendous powers. The snake appears as an aggressive defender in many ancient Greek myths; in fact the name 'Medusa', the snake-haired Gorgon translates from the Greek as 'guardian' or 'protectress'. The Romans regarded the snake as the continuing spirit (or 'genius') of the family unit.
A bracelet, ring and a pendant have also been made to complete this set.
This jewellery collection comes to us from one of the foremost and well established silver jewellery manufacturers in Greece. We are proud to have been working with them for over a decade.
The collection is inspired by ancient Greek silver and gold coins, the art and jewellery of the Minoan civilisation, familiar symbolic motifs and images, and the animals that played a significant part in ancient Greek culture.
