The swallows on this delightful vase swoop around the body with elegant long wings between simple banded decoration.
The vase shape 'prochous' was a pouring vessel, characterised by a large body and a single handle. It is thought to be in the same family as the oinochoe, meaning 'wine pouring vessel'. The 'cho' part of the Greek word relates to the pouring function).
This collection of Minoan pottery is made in Greece. The vases themselves are manufactured in Greece, the images transferred and painted by hand. The texture, colouring and final finish is as close to that of the original as possible.
