the griffin

replica ancient Greek bronze griffin sculptures at It's All Greek London and online

In Greek mythology, the griffin was a symbol of wealth and prosperity and a guardian of prized possessions. The hybrid griffin had powerful wings, the body of a lion and the beak of an eagle. They were sacred to the god Apollo, whose treasure they guarded, and were also associated with the god Dionysos as the guardians of his ever-flowing bowl of wine.
