A Time of Gifts 2019

This boat is based on the penteconter, an ancient Greek galley, a forerunner of the bireme and trireme, used since the archaic period.

The penteconter was a long range ship used for sea trade, piracy, warfare and exploration, capable of transporting freight or troops.

The evil eye on the side of the hull, a common motif, was intended to warn and frighten the enemy.

This smallest boat in our collection has been cast for us, in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As they are not mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.

The base is made of marble and, unlike the larger ships where the sail and the ship and the base are separate units, this comes in one piece.
