Symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, intelligence and resourcefulness. She was also the patron deity of Athens, the city to which she gave her name and the gift of the olive.
The owl was frequently depicted in the art and coinage of the city, especially from the 6th century BC onwards. The first three letters (in Greek) of Athena's name (alpha, theta, epsilon) were often seen alongside the owl, as well as a sprig of olive.
All our bronze items are cast for us, in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique. Also, please allow for variations of a millimetre or two from the specified size.
He is mounted on a dark marble base as below. Shown with his larger two friends and the mini pensive owl.
