Carrara marble from Tuscany in Italy was used for the Pantheon in Rome and was also favoured by Michelangelo for his signature marble statues, including the iconic David. Our marble pieces are made for us in the UK, using a process of dry casting, so that each item contains over 90% marble. Whether they be placed inside or outdoors, there will be no discoloration, other than natural patination and ageing.
Greek sculpture has had a profound influence on the development of European art. Some of the busts and statues in our collection are based on a Greek original, such as the Praxiteles Hermes. Others are based on Hellenistic or Roman marble copies of lost original Greek bronzes, such as the Apollo Belvedere and the Farnese Antinoos. Others, such as Canova's Hermes and lions, date to the Renaissance, when the renewed interest in the ancient world led to the creation of a flourishing industry in replicas of Greek and Roman art.
PLEASE NOTE! Our supplier is very busy at the moment so lead times for 'special order items' are longer than normal and are likely to be so until April or so.
