A Time of Gifts 2019

Figurines such as this were found as part of grave offerings as tributes to the deceased warrior. Originals date to the 8th and 7th centuries BC and are found in the museum in Sparta and Olympia.

He can be turned either way. His shield is decorated with a serpent, symbol of healing. He wears greaves, a hoplite helmet and short tunic. His stylised beard is reminiscent of the reclining warriors in the pediments from the temple of Aegina.

He has been cast in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.
