Poseidon was the elemental god of the sea, flowing water and earthquakes. Brother of Zeus and Hades, he was married to the sea-nymph Amphitrite, but had no children with her. He had numerous affairs, all fruitful, but the offspring were rather 'unusual'; for example, Polyphemos the one-eyed Cyclops and Pegasus the winged horse. With his trident he would strike the ocean floor to cause violent tempests and earthquakes. A strike of his trident would also cause storms and earthquakes to abate.
This bronze item is cast for us, in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.
