Symbol of royalty, dignity, courage and strength, lions featured prominently in ancient Greek art and literature. In Homer's 'Iliad', heroes such as Achilles are compared with the lion at moments of unrestrained power and savagery. In his first labour, Herakles killed the Nemean Lion and, thereafter, wore its impenetrable hide, making him invulnerable to any weapon. It is this story which lies behind the constellation 'Leo': in honour of Herakles' triumph over the lion, Zeus (father of Herakles) set the lion in the night sky.
This jewellery collection comes to us from one of the foremost and most well-established silver jewellery manufacturers in Greece. We are proud to have been working with them for over a decade.
The collection is inspired by ancient Greek silver and gold coins, the art and jewellery of the Minoan civilisation, familiar symbolic motifs and images, and the animals that played a significant part in ancient Greek culture.
