The most unusual feature of this pyxis (cosmetic/jewellery box) is the three female figureheads at the rim, reminiscent of  the prow of a ship.

It is decorated with two friezes of geese, lions and mythical griffins and sirens.

Hand-painted for us in Greece, it is similar to an original in the British Museum (shown below), dating to the Middle Corinthian period ca 600-575BC.
