It's All Greek on Walkabout
  • woven loveknot bracelet

Simple and striking, this fluid bracelet is formed from twin 'ropes' knotted to the centre, each made of fine hand woven strands.

A symbol of love and commitment, the love knot, also known as the Hercules knot, was used in Ancient Greece and Rome in wedding ceremonies and to symbolise Hercules in his capacity as the god of fertility. Consisting of two strong, intertwined strands, it was tied as a protective amulet into the bride’s wedding gown, to be untied by the groom. Hence derives our expression “to tie the knot”. This tradition may have originated from the legendary capture of Diana's girdle by Hippolyta, the Amazon queen.
